Applications

Pump selection starts with the duty, not the catalogue. The notes below describe what each industry usually asks of a pump, and which series in the range normally fits. Final selection still depends on the flow, head, solids concentration, particle size, temperature and pH of your process.

Mining and mineral processing

Mill discharge, cyclone feed, concentrate and tailings are abrasive, often coarse, and frequently at high solids concentration. Alloy-lined slurry pumps are the default; rubber lining is preferred where the particles are fine and rounded.

Series normally quoted: ZJ / ZJL, ZGB, AH / HH, ZJD, TCB (ceramic, for fine quartz-type abrasion), SPA / SPB for filter press feed.

Coal preparation

Heavy-medium circuits, slime and ash handling call for pumps that tolerate dense media and intermittent coarse solids without blocking.

Series normally quoted: ZJ / ZJL, AHR (rubber-lined), LR / L, PN / PNL for slimes.

Power generation

Two very different duties: flue-gas desulfurization (large flows of limestone and gypsum slurry, moderate head) and ash handling (abrasive, coarse, intermittent).

Series normally quoted: DT / DTL and TL(R) for FGD; ZGB, PH and ZJ for ash; S or SH for cooling-water circulation.

Metallurgy

Sinter and blast-furnace slurries, scale, slag and pickling liquors combine abrasion with temperature and corrosion.

Series normally quoted: ZJ / ZJL, AH / HH, G / GH for slag, THR for corrosive solutions.

Sand, gravel and dredging

The solids are simply too large for a conventional slurry pump, and the pump is often mounted on a dredger or a floating platform.

Series normally quoted: G / GH gravel pumps, ZJD single-casing, SP / SPR for sumps on board.

Chemical, fertiliser and pharmaceutical

Corrosion resistance governs: ISO 2858 chemical pumps for acids and process liquids, fluoroplastic lining for aggressive chemistry, stainless steel for clean corrosive service.

Series normally quoted: IH, ZC, AFB, FSB, THR, WFB self-priming.

Municipal and environmental

Sewage, stormwater, sludge and drainage, usually with fibrous material in the flow and limited space in the sump.

Series normally quoted: WQ / QW submersible, PW / PWL, LP vertical drainage, PNJ / PNJF.

Pulp, paper and starch

Fibrous suspensions that mat and block a conventional impeller, at consistencies up to 6%.

Series normally quoted: ZB stock pump, LXL two-phase flow pump.

Building services and general water

Clean water at moderate temperature, with pressure boosting, heating and cooling circuits.

Series normally quoted: IS / ISR, ISG / ISW, DA and DL multistage, S / SH for large flows.

If you can supply flow, head, medium, solids content and temperature, we can shortlist the series and confirm the wetted-part material. If some values are unknown, a process flow sheet or an existing pump nameplate is usually enough to start.
